Co-construction of Second Penang Bridge, Malaysia, a consensus reached by Premier Wen Jiabao and former Malaysian Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi during Third China-ASEAN Expo, is the largest cooperation project between China and Malaysia to date. In order to solve the bridge building funding, Export-import Bank of China provides a preferential buyer's credit of $ 800,000,000 for the project. Local media and public say that the Second Penang Bridge will not only promote economic development of Penang and northern Malaysia Economic Corridor building, but also put bilateral Malaysia-China cooperation onto a new stage.

 

Penang Second Bridge, Malaysia is the longest cross-sea bridge in Southeast Asia, Sanbo undertakes form travelers project for its main bridge, which is another successful world cross-sea application of Sanbo`s products following Hangzhou Bay Bridge, Zhoushan Bridge and Donghai Bridge, the of another bridge. The Second Penang Bridge project is located in the north of setiawan of Penang that is Malaysia's second largest city and major industrial city, which is the biggest bridge cooperation project between Malaysia and China and also the longest cross-sea bridge that Chinese enterprises have involved extraterritorially so far. Export-import Bank of China provides preferential buyer's credit of $ 800,000,000 for the project. The bridge`s design length is 22.5 kilometers, which includes 6 kilometers of land approach, and 16.5 kilometers of cross-sea bridge. The bridge is 28.8 meters wide with two-way four lanes plus two-way motorcycle lanes, design speed of 80 km, construction period of 3 years and a total investment of more than $ 1 billion. In March 2006 the Malaysian government announced that the Second Penang Bridge project was listed in priority development projects in the Ninth Malaysia Plan (2006-2010).

 

The design of Second Penang Bridge of Malaysian adopts JKR standard together with UK, U.S. and EU standards and its technical quality requirements are extremely strict.

 

 Design Basis

 The taveraler is composed of sections, such as bearing platform,walking system,hanging system,lifting system,formwork system and working platform.

 

 Overview of the bearing platform


The platform includes: main longitudinal beams, middle transverse beam, back transverse beam, middle hanging legs, back hanging legs. When pouring, side main beam formworks are supported by two main longitudinal beams, each of which consists of two longitudinally parallel triangular trusses, and the triangular truss’s section is a steel plate welded H-section. In order to meet transport requirement, main longitudinal beam is divided into horizontal beam and truss with bolt connected between them.

 

The two main longitudinal beams are bolted by middle transverse beam and back transverse beam, when pouring, middle transverse beam formwork is supported by the longitudinal beam. Sections of middle transverse beam and back transverse beam is a steel plate welded H-section.

 

The bearing platform has two middle hanging legs and two back hanging legs. In the process of moving, four hanging legs hang the form traveler on poured box girder, each hanging leg section is designed into a steel plate welded box section, a space is left in the box section (at prestressed tension part of transverse beam) to avoid interference when transverse beam prestressed-tension occurs.

 

Traveling system and traveling rails:
The traveling system consists of two hydraulic cylinders, one of which above rails connects gliding shoe to slide locking device fixed on the traveling rails.

 

The traveling system is used for pulling the form traveler longitudinally to move, and the sliding lock device is anchored with rails by pin. Each time the form traveler can move 1000 mm. Before moving, the traveling system pulls rails to the edge of poured box girder.


Traveling rails have box structure, and they are anchored with poured box girder by anchoring devices to prevent rails from sliding.
